Sunnytrails Ambassador Working in Washington DC

One of the girls in Sunnytrails Ambassador Troop #5152, Haley Alderete, who is a junior at High Tech High, has just been accepted as a Page for Congressman Bob Filner in the House of Representatives in Washington DC for the coming semester. She will be attending  Page School in the Library of Congress and going on many field trips, exploring the history of the area as well as serving in the House of Representatives. Haley leaves on September 6, 2010 and will be back on January 21, 2011.

Haley received her Silver Award in May 2009 for providing foster care to kittens from the Chula Vista Community Animal Shelter for the summer. She handled problems and nursed the animals around the clock that were not only premature but had various health issues too. As part of the project she wrote a wonderful article for the school paper describing her experience and encouraging others to become pet foster parents too. She is an articulate and persuasive speaker and writer.

She has helped to run Girl Scout camp outs, she’s fed the homeless at St. Vincent de Paul, she worked at the Old Globe Theater Grinch Family Day and for the Old Globe Gala, she’s painted murals at the Chula Vista Animal Shelter and much more. In every case she’s got great ideas and enthusiasm and she sticks with the project until it gets done.

She has a tremendous opportunity this semester to learn more about leadership on the National level and she’s the kind of girl who would make a real difference in politics or law. She’s planning to keep a blog while she’s in Washington DC http://haley-pagelife.blogspot.com/ so you can follow her on her adventure.  As you can probably tell, I’m really proud to be her leader.
