May 21, 2020 Service Unit Meeting

May 21, 2020 Service Unit Meeting

Our May Service Unit meeting was online and this powerpoint was the agenda. You may view the powerpoint HERE.

We had a nice turnout for our virtual meeting this past Thursday, May 21st. It was great to see so many of you there, thank you for taking the time to join us and to reconnect. We shared a lot of information and had the pleasure of having two guest speakers from council: Lourdes Gonzales, who spoke about virtual platforms; and Tara Bernal, who spoke about summer camps reimagined. Please view the PowerPoint presentation attached for the recap. Just a few deadlines worth noting:

  • Wednesday, May 27th: In lieu of a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, we are celebrating our volunteers by way of a Kudoboard. Thank you to those who have already contributed, our Kudoboard is looking awesome but we know we could do better! Let’s show our volunteers some appreciation, they deserve it! Take a minute and add your “kudos” for your volunteers, parents, leaders, TCMs, TFMs, Troop Treasurers, etc. no later than this Wednesday, May 27th. We will share the completed Kudoboard on Thursday, May 28th (the original date of our dinner). Awards of Distinction certificates and pins will be distributed as soon as we are able to meet in person again. Please continue to submit your online Awards of Distinction requests.
  • Friday, May 29th: High award lawn signs are being offered for Gold, Silver and Bronze Award earners. Cost is $10 each. For additional details and to place your order, please visit our website.
  • Monday, June 1st: Last day to submit financials to our Service Unit Treasurer to earn an incentive patch for leaders and treasurers (2 per troop). Council deadline is Tuesday, June 30th. For assistance, please contact Marilou/Mariana.
  • Monday, June 1st: Last day to submit Lifetime Membership Scholarship applications for our graduating seniors. This also extends to seniors who were members of the Class of 2019.
  • Monday, June 15th: Last day for early bird renewal to earn council’s early bird renewal patch. There are incentives to be earned at the troop and service unit level. At the service unit level, we need 65% of our girls to renew by June 15th to earn 50% off our council property encampment site fee for our 2020-21 encampment! As of last Thursday, we were at 11 girls renewed and we need to hit 567 for the incentive. If you already know your girls are renewing, renew ASAP and let’s earn that incentive!
  • Monday, June 15th: Last day to submit council and GSUSA award nominations and endorsements. Please visit the Girl Scouts San Diego website to nominate an outstanding volunteer. Council’s Volunteer Celebration is scheduled for early November.
  • Court of Awards: Many of you have submitted recognition requests for your girls who have earned awards this year. The submission period is now closed for this year and we anticipate sharing the Court of Awards presentation in mid-June.

Again, please view the PowerPoint presentation for all the information shared and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need further clarification or have questions.
Thank you for all you do to support Girl Scouts. We hope you’re all hanging in there as we navigate through life and times during corona. We’re thinking of all of you and can’t wait to see everyone in person again soon.
