USS Midway Girl Scout Overnights

USS Midway Girl Scout Overnights

The Midway Overnight Adventure is a fun overnight for Girl Scout troops! It’s a structured event, with guided tours and behind-the-scenes excursions throughout the ship. The event begins at 5:00 pm and concludes at 9:30 am the following morning.

We provide a hot dinner and breakfast. Berthing (sleeping) will be in the authentic berths used by the enlisted men when this ship was active duty. It is dormitory style, and we keep scouts together with their parents/chaperones, and siblings are welcome to come as well. We have separate Heads (restrooms) for males and females, but there are no Rain Locker (shower) facilities available.

Before your adventure begins, we break groups up into squadrons for their tours throughout the ship. Every squadron we use was at one point stationed here aboard the Midway. We have many hands on activities for the Troops, such as using special flags (we call paddles) as a Landing Signal Officer would, and a station with float coats that teaching the scouts about the different jobs sailors would have on the flight deck.

Our motto for the Overnight Adventure is Freedom is Not Free. This is not a military recruiting tool, we simply show Troops that only through teamwork can a city at sea work, and remind our guests of the great sacrifices that have been made to secure our freedom here in America.

Evening behind the scenes tours last past 10:00 pm, but early berthing is ok. Taps (lights out) will be at 10:30 pm. Reveille is at 6:00 am. During both the night and morning portion, guests have free time to explore the flight deck, and cookies and milk are offered in the evening as well.

Re-admission to the museum is free at the conclusion of the program, however, parking will need to be extended if you wish to stay.
