Wreaths Across America
This year’s Wreaths Across America event will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 9AM
Organizers are expecting over 1,500 people attendees this year. Approximately 3000 wreaths will need to be distributed, which means each attendee will likely receive two wreaths to place on gravesites.
A simple flyer for this event is attached. ALL are welcome to this event and we ask that Girl Scouts please wear their vests/sashes. Typically, the mornings are pretty cool, so you’ll want to remind the girls to bring sweaters, and wear those along with their jeans and tennis shoes. Please remember to bring water and snacks!
Tim Campion (WAA Volunteer Coordinator) needs a heads up on how many scouts to expect, so please once again send me your troop numbers and the number of participants from your troops (# of scouts and # of family members).
For those that wish to purchase fun patches and rockers for your Girl Scouts, please visit:
Just below the header, click on “Store” –> “Merchandise”
Patches are $3.00 each and rocker patches with dates are $1.50 each. The patches have remained the same annually, so once you’ve purchased a patch, you’ll likely just want to add rockers. We’ve also purchased pins in the past, and have distributed Appreciation Thank You Cards to our Girl Scouts (these are free with a shipping/handling charge of $5.00 per lot of 100).
There is a tremendous amount of excellent information on the website that I hope you’ll share with your Girl Scouts, whether or not you are able to attend this event! You can also find information on their Facebook page located at: https://www.facebook.com/WAAHQ
We’ll attempt to take a group photo of our Girl Scouts prior to the event. Once the wreaths are distributed, participants generally disburse quickly across the cemetery grounds. Please take and share photos and please ask your scouts to spend a moment in silence to thank the veteran that they are honoring.
If you’ve never been to Fort Rosecrans and need directions, visit maps.google.com. The address is:
1800 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego, CA 92106
We hope that you’ll join us and will consider making it an annual tradition to participate in laying wreaths on the graves of those who have so honorably served our nation.
