Thanks to those of you who came to our first organizational meeting of the year. If you missed it you still have a chance to join in!
Our next meeting will be on July 8th at 7pm at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of H Street and Paseo Ranchero and we’d love each of you to try to make it. We will be planning the calendar for next year and you’ll find out more about the new way we’re organizing the service unit and talk about having an encampment at Sweetwater Summit this fall and getting teams together to run the girl scout 5K and to go to Leading the Way.
Rather than having individuals on the service unit team we will have committees of interested leaders. There will be 8 committees:
Membership (registrar, troop organizers and school contacts, round-ups)
Product Sales (nuts and cookies)
Events/Activities (encampment, event directors and activity consultant)
Administration (communication, website, secretary)
Recognitions (leader appreciation, volunteer dinner, meeting refreshments)
Teen GSLE (girl scout leadership experience, journeys, adventure, travel for older girls)
Volunteer Development (orientation and training)
We are hoping that each of you will have an interest in at least one of those committees. To reward you for joining a committee we will have cool “Team Sunny Trails” t-shirts to give to each volunteer who agrees to help on a committee. Come on July 8th and hear more about it and get your t-shirt!
I’m happy to say that I’ve joined the service unit manager’s committee. There will be three of us each representing one of the levels of girl scouting: Elementary (daisies, brownies and juniors) Middle (cadettes) and High School (seniors and ambassadors). I’m really looking forward to working with all of you again.
There are a few other dates to put on your calendars: July 29th will be our first round up at Montevale at 6:30pm. Please tell friends who want to join a troop to come and learn more about girl scouts and about volunteer opportunities in their area. We welcome leaders who would like to add more girls to their troops and TOCs and school contacts and any other leaders who would like to help us spread the word about girl scouts to come and help. August 12th will be another service unit meeting, we’ll have calendars to hand out and will have information about events that are coming up in the fall plus some fun meet and greet activities and August 21st we’d like to have a big group of Sunny Trails leaders go together to Leading the Way. It’s a council sponsored kickoff to the year with fabulous break out sessions, lunch and an opportunity to hear about what’s new in girl scouting. Don’t miss it! If you prefer to use a different email address or there is a new leader taking over your troop please send the address for me to add and put “change” or “add” in the subject line. We’ll get it straightened out.
