2022-2023 Encampment Schedule
Hello Sunny Trails Leaders and Volunteers! Here are the dates for our Encampments in 2022-2023:
- Rawhide Ranch, September 16-18 2022
- Camp Surf, October 7-9, 2022
- Balboa Campus, November 4-6, 2022
- Camp Whispering Oaks, December 9-11, 2022
- Camp Winacka, April 28-30, 2023
What to Know
Training and Progression: All troops must have a Leader or Troop Volunteer that has successfully completed the appropriate training through GSSD. Not sure what course(s) you need? See the Outdoor Progression Chart to learn more. If training is still needed, please visit www.sdgirlscouts.org/events to register. We realize that we are only 3 weeks away from the first weekend. Please talk to your troops and families to make sure that everyone is ready. Keeping progression in mind is key, as the majority of our troops have not been able to camp in almost 2 years. If your troop is not ready, don’t worry—we will have plenty of opportunities in the next coming months!
Safety: Review Chapter 4 – Safety of the Volunteer Essentials, Guidelines and Tips for Troop Camping and Cooking During COVID-19, complete the necessary paperwork, and request approval from our Sunny Trails Activity Consultant.
Amenities: At all facilities there are program places that need to be shared such as fire circles, tree house, playground, bathrooms, and meal prep areas. If you are sharing facilities with another troop, please work on a schedule so the other troops are able to play, create, prep, and clean while maintaining safety without overlap or intermingling.
Food Options: Cookout at the unit you are camping in, bring meals or get meals from a local restaurant. If you are sharing cooking facilities with other troop(s), work on a schedule so each troop is able to prepare, eat, and clean while avoiding overlap or intermingling.
· Note: GSSD can provide propane stoves to use upon request.
Activities: Pick and plan your own badge work, play card games, dive into crafts or hikes. If you are interested in doing higher risk activities such as archery, fishing, sling shots or hatchet throwing please email customercare@sdgirlscouts.org so they can connect you with a trainer.
